Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE:  Literacy Coach

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Master’s Degree
  • Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specialization and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10
  • Meets the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience
  • Knowledge of current research based instructional practices
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude toward change
  • Successful experience and involvement in curriculum development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and organizational abilities
  • Successful experience in establishing professional and collaborative relationships
  • Ability to effectively manage professional time
  • Ability and skills to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and the community
  • Abilities and skills to work effectively with school team(s) to address student or school concerns
  • The skill and ability to deliver effective presentations and/or model lessons to individual teachers or small groups
  • Ability, skills and knowledge to collect and analyze data for problem solving and coaching
  • Successful experience in use of all county/school/classroom related technologies relevant to the responsibilities position
  • LETRS trained or currently enrolled at the time of application 
  • Coaching experience preferred
  • Ability to attend mandatory position training July 20–22, 2026 in Charleston
  • Experience facilitating student-centered coaching cycles
  • Experience with school-level data collection and accountability for grant reporting
  • Experience in supporting adult learners

REPORTS TO:  Director of Elementary Education/Pre-K/Title I, II, III, IV

 

FSLA/CONTRACT STATUS:  Exempt

 

EMPLOYMENT TERM:  210 Days

 

SALARY:  Salary based on experience and education level per MCBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.

EVALUATION:  Performance in this position will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and Morgan County Board of Education Evaluation Policy.

 

JOB SUMMARY:  To provide consistency and guidance in implementing Response Intervention K–5 throughout Morgan County.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Observe classroom teachers and provide feedback, verbally or written, after each observation
  • Model lessons for classroom teachers, as needed based on observations and/or requests, focused on essential teaching components in subject being modeled
  • Observes the mission of the school district
  • Conduct conferences and debriefings for the purpose of providing constructive feedback to classroom teachers
  • Meet regularly with principals for planning, implementing and evaluating
  • Coordinate ongoing and sustained professional development within each school, as needed, based on identified needs
  • Assist staff in selecting and securing appropriate instructional materials, strategies and programs as related to subject/content being delivered
  • Coordinate assessment in schools as related to above programs
  • Research and disseminate the latest research findings and materials
  • Orient new teachers to Response to Intervention
  • Promote the school system’s philosophy and curriculum and interpret it to the school administration, staff and public
  • Assist with the vertical alignment of curriculum and transitions between programmatic levels
  • Work effectively with school teams to address student or school concerns related to the responsibilities of the position
  • Establish a professional, collaborative relationship with colleagues.
  • Participates in staff development activities to improve Standards of Practice for self and colleagues
  • Keeps informed and complies with state, district and each schools regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required
  • Adheres to the Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Morgan County School’s Policy 3210
  • Performs all other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or immediate supervisor
